Type 1 diabetes, a rapidly progressive disease which currently affects 2 million
children nationwide, is steadily rising among young children and adults. Little or
no insulin, a hormone necessary to convert food into energy, is produced in the
pancreas in a person with Type 1 diabetes.

Research conducted on Type 1 diabetes shows that the mortality rate of patients with
